Rock Band 101 is a safe and exciting space where kids can be their own rockstar – allowing them to express themselves through music. Students will be empowered to speak up for what they believe in, carry themselves with confidence, and express themselves creatively.

By exploring issues of gender and identity in popular music, media, and culture, our goal is to foster empathy and create deeper connections in relationships. Over the course of eight weeks, students participating in this program will work with instruments and learn collaboratively with each other – two of the most important building blocks for life-long learning.

Throughout the camp, students will take part in self-defense classes and image and media talks where they will discuss gender roles, representation, and how to be true to themselves. They will also have the opportunity to talk with local musicians about what it’s like to work in the music industry.
